Welcome to Learn Portuguese with Susana (LPWS). By enrolling in our courses, purchasing session packages, or using our website, you declare that you know, understand, and fully accept these Terms and Conditions.
These Terms and Conditions operate in conjunction with our Professional Training Regulations and Privacy Policy.
1. Nature of the Service and Disclaimer
- Scope of services: LPWS provides recorded online courses through a self-paced learning model, as well as live synchronous individual and group sessions focused on teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (Português Língua Estrangeira – PLE).
- Official CAPLE Exams (CIPLE, DEPLE, etc.): LPWS supports and guides trainees in preparing for official CAPLE exams. However, LPWS is not an exam center. Registration for the official examination, participation in the examination, and obtaining official certification for Portuguese nationality or visa purposes are the sole and exclusive responsibility of the trainee. SIGO certificates issued by LPWS attest to the training received but do not replace official CAPLE exams.
2. Enrollment and Access Requirements
- Enrollment Process: Enrollment is considered valid following confirmation of online payment through the website and the subsequent mandatory completion of the applicable form. The information provided through this form is required for issuing invoices and for the subsequent registration of the trainee’s data on the official SIGO platform.
- Technical Requirements: It is the sole responsibility of the trainee to ensure that they have the technical conditions necessary to attend the sessions, including a device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) with a stable internet connection, a functioning camera, speakers or headphones, and microphone. The trainee also commits to configuring their keyboard for the Portuguese language, or use an equivalent alternative, to allow for correct writing during exercises.
- Assessment and Level Placement: Trainees with prior knowledge of Portuguese must complete the free Assessment Test available on the LPWS homepage. This assessment is required to ensure placement at the appropriate learning level in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
3. Operational Conditions, Deadlines, and Cancelations
Learning Models
- Self-Paced E-learning Model (Recorded Sessions): The content of the recorded sessions is made available sequentially on the platform. To progress to the next session, the trainee must achieve a minimum score of 90% correct answers on each quiz. At the end of each 12-week block, attendance at a scheduled synchronous session is mandatory.
- Live Sessions (Zoom): Individual sessions, on a one-to-one basis, and group sessions take place live through the Zoom platform.
Validity Periods of Courses and Sessions
- 12 or 24-Week Courses (Recorded Sessions): Access to the course content on the platform is lifetime, with “lifetime” understood as the period during which LPWS keeps the aforementioned course active and commercialized on its digital platform.
- Group and Individual Sessions: Recordings of live group and individual sessions expire, without exception, one month after the official end of the applicable course.
Rescheduling Policy for Individual Sessions
- A request to change or reschedule an individual session (1:1) must be sent by email to susana@learnportuguesewithsusana.com at least 24 hours before the scheduled start time.
- Requests made outside of this notice period, as well as failure to attend at the scheduled time, will result in the irrevocable loss of the session. The session will be counted in full and deducted from the trainee’s package.
Cancellations, Returns, and Right of Withdrawal
- Right of Withdrawal: Under applicable consumer-protection legislation, the trainee has 14 consecutive days from the date of payment to request cancellation and a full refund of the amount paid. The request must be sent to susana@learnportuguesewithsusana.com.
- Commencement of Service Performance: The trainee accepts that the right to a refund within the 14-day period is lost from the moment the service effectively begins. The service is considered to have commenced when:
- The first electronic record of access (login or activation) of the pedagogical content on the platform is generated; or
- The first synchronous/live session is conducted or made available.
- After the service has commenced or after the legal 14 days have passed, there will be no grounds for any return, refund, or credit note, resulting from withdrawal, absence, or abandonment of the course.
4. Attendance, Conduct, and Certification
- Use of Credentials and Session Links: Access to the platform and links to Zoom sessions is strictly personal and non-transferable. Sharing account credentials or session links with third parties will result in the immediate blocking of the account and exclusion from the course, without the right to any compensation or a refund.
- Code of Conduct during Zoom Sessions: During live sessions, particularly group sessions, trainees must behave politely and respectfully toward the instructors and the other trainees. Recording sessions, taking screenshots, or sharing any images, personal information, or other personal data belonging to the instructors or other trainees is strictly prohibited. Failure to comply with this may result in the trainee’s immediate exclusion from the course.
- Absences and Delays: A trainee’s late arrival or failure to attend an individual or group session does not provide any right to compensation or recovery of the time missed. In the case of an individual session, the instructor will remain online in the Zoom room for the entire scheduled period.
- Approval and SIGO Certificate: As a training entity certified by DGERT, LPWS issues professional training certificates through the official SIGO platform. To qualify for the certificate, the trainee must meet both of the following requirements:
- Record 100% attendance/participation in all mandatory activities;
- Obtain a final average score equal to or higher than 75 points on a scale of 0 to 100 in the course evaluation moments.
5. Data Protection (GDPR) and Complaints
- Personal Data: Personal data collected by LPWS is used solely and exclusively for the execution of the contract, pedagogical management, and compliance with applicable legal obligations, including reporting to DGERT, the Portuguese Tax Authority, and the official SIGO platform. LPWS handles this information confidentially and applies appropriate measures to protect the personal data entrusted to it. Invoicing information will be retained for the legally required period of 10 years. The service is exempt from VAT under Article 9 of the Portuguese VAT Code (Código do Imposto sobre o Valor Acrescentado – CIVA). Further information about how LPWS collects, uses, stores, and protects personal data is available in our Privacy Policy.
- Complaints: Complaints may be submitted in writing through the general support email or through the Electronic Complaints Book (Livro de Reclamações Eletrónico) available through the LPWS website. Electronic complaints will be reviewed and answered by Training Management within a maximum period of 15 working days, unless a short legally applicable period applies.
